“He did a great job teaching us at our level and we appreciated his excellent English. […] The practice biathlon ‘race’ was so much fun.”

The idea
Biathlon brings together two opposite efforts: endurance on the ski loop, then calm at the shooting range. For team building in Chamonix, in Haute-Savoie, it is a challenge where everyone takes part: you learn the basics together, then you compete in a team relay.
No need to have skied or shot before: the session starts with a taster. You shoot with real air rifles, loaded with pellets, at mechanical targets. And without snow, the challenge is done on foot: it runs all year round. With friends rather than colleagues, the same challenge is played as a Chamonix stag do or hen do.
“Despite the seven of us in the group having slightly different abilities and stamina Richard ensured we all worked at our own pace and made huge progress.”
Julie C., Google review, cross-country ski holiday
How it works
Two hours with a biathlon instructor in Chamonix, state-qualified: the range rules first, the relay to finish. A challenge built on team cohesion and team spirit: everyone shoots, then hands over to the next teammate.
1
The basics of cross-country skiing, then the rifle and how to load it: prone shooting, then standing shooting. The mechanical targets flip over when you hit them.
2
The group splits into teams. The rules: one ski loop, one stop at the range, one penalty loop for each missed target.
3
Skiing and shooting follow one another, and so do the penalty loops: effort, focus and relays, for the whole team.
4
No podium: everyone knows their result, and the team finishes the session together.
Who it is for
Two hours in the afternoon, between two working sessions: corporate team building in Chamonix, outdoors, that takes the team out of the meeting room, with no fitness level required. A fun experience facing the Mont Blanc massif, where collaboration counts as much as shooting: a unique team event during your stay in Chamonix.
From 3 people, and up to around 20 to 25 with other biathlon professionals: everyone skis, shoots and hands over to a teammate in the relay.
Richard teaches in English or French, from the safety rules to the relay: one session for a team that speaks several languages.
In the mountains
For a corporate retreat in Chamonix, the same instructor also leads cross-country ski lessons and snowshoe outings, in winter. The Les Bois shooting range, in Chamonix, faces the Drus and Mont Blanc: for your corporate event, a natural setting in the heart of the Alps, in the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley.
€140 1 h 30
The basics of Nordic skiing, classic or skating, on the valley’s trails: a 1.5-hour lesson at €140 or a half day at €270 for 1 to 2 people, then €25 per extra person, up to 6. Larger groups: on request.
€140 1 h 30, 1 to 2 people
€250 ½ day
A walk guided by a qualified mountain leader, no skiing needed: €250 for a half day for 1 to 3 people, then €25 per extra person, 5 at most. Larger groups: on request.

Your instructor
For your Chamonix team building, you deal with one person: Richard Etellin, a cross-country skiing and biathlon instructor trained at ENSA in Chamonix and at CNSNMM in Prémanon. Independent since 1999, he also coaches students at the Lycée Roger Frison-Roche. He is the one who looks at your request, sends you the quote and leads the session.

Cross-country skis to rent at Intersport Chamonix Nord, Richard’s partner shop; the trail pass is sold at the Maison nordique, at the start of the Chamonix trails.
Questions
With Richard, three outdoor Chamonix team building activities: the team biathlon challenge, the cross-country ski introduction and the snowshoe outing. Biathlon is the most collective one: a ski and shooting taster, then a relay where every member of the team counts. It runs all year round, on cross-country skis in winter, on foot otherwise. The full plan of the session is on the page try biathlon in Chamonix.
No. The session starts with a taster: Richard, a state-qualified instructor, first shows the basics of cross-country skiing, then prone and standing shooting, before he starts the relay. Clients who were beginners at both skiing and shooting say they saw their progress by the end of the session. Those who do not want to ski can do the challenge on foot. If your team enjoys the skiing, a cross-country skiing lesson for beginners lets you carry on during your stay.
You shoot with real air rifles, loaded with pellets, on a biathlon range with mechanical targets: it is not laser shooting. Richard starts every session with the rifle, how to load it and the range rules; these rules apply until the final relay. The details are on the page try biathlon in Chamonix.
The price is for the 2-hour session, for the group: €290 for 3 or 4 people, €350 for 5, €420 for 6 and €490 for 7, that is €70 per person for 5 to 7. Over 7 people, Richard sends a quote. Ski hire and the trail pass are not included: each participant buys their pass at the Maison nordique. See all Chamonix ski instructor prices and conditions.
Two hours, from the taster to the final relay. In winter, the slots are 12:30-14:30 or 14:30-16:30, and Richard updates his biathlon schedule every week. The morning stays free for your meetings.
Yes, all year round. Summer biathlon works the same way: without snow, Richard combines shooting with running or brisk walking, on 100-metre loops, with a 15-metre penalty loop. The session keeps its 2-hour length and its prices: a company seminar in Chamonix in spring or summer keeps the same challenge. The decision is the instructor’s, depending on the weather and the snow, as set out in the terms and conditions (in French). For the summer season, see biathlon in summer.
For a company event in Chamonix, from 3 people. Groups of around ten people have already come; the limit is around 20 to 25 people: for large groups, Richard works with other biathlon professionals. Give the size of your group in the quote request.
