To try biathlon in Chamonix, sessions last 2 hours, mostly in the afternoon: 12:30-14:30 or 14:30-16:30. Biathlon is not possible every day: Richard updates his biathlon schedule every week. From age 8, with no child rate: children pay the same price as adults.

The price
Chamonix ski instructor prices and mountain leader rates do not include equipment or access to the cross-country ski trails. Richard does not provide skis, poles or snowshoes: you rent them at the partner shop of Chamonix Cross Country Skiing, Intersport Chamonix Nord, opposite the cross-country ski trails of Chamonix Mont-Blanc. You will find the rental prices at the shop. For cross-country skiing and biathlon, each participant buys their trail pass at the Maison nordique, the Nordic centre at the start of the Chamonix trails (Nordic centre prices).
Insurance is not included either.

Booking
High season is at Christmas and during the February and March holidays: book your lessons in advance. At Christmas, you can also give a lesson as a gift voucher.
The deposit. When you book, you pay 50% of the price. It holds your slot.
The balance. You pay it directly to Richard Etellin, on the day of the lesson.
Cancellation policy. The deposit is non-refundable, except with a medical certificate; no transfer to another day.

Gift voucher
Give a lesson, a biathlon taster or a snowshoe outing with Richard, as a Christmas gift or a birthday present in Chamonix. The voucher has the price of the activity chosen, as in the Chamonix ski instructor prices above, with no free amount: €140 for a 1.5-hour cross-country ski lesson, €280 for a 2-hour biathlon taster, €250 for a half-day snowshoe outing. You pay 100% when you order, and the voucher is valid for the whole winter. The person receiving it then contacts Richard directly to set the date and time. 2026-2027 winter rates, equipment and trail pass not included.
Most requests come at Christmas, often for a taster session given to someone close. The voucher goes under the tree. The outing takes place during the season, from the opening of the trails in December to the end of March or early April.

On your own, one-to-one ski tuition in Chamonix costs the same as a lesson for two: €140 for a 1.5-hour lesson and €270 for a 3-hour half day; beyond 2 people, add €25 per extra person, up to 6 people. A 6-hour full day costs €580, up to 4 people. Cross-country ski lesson prices are the same for classic and skating: they depend only on the length of the lesson and on the number of people.
The 1.5-hour lesson has four slots a day: 9:00-10:30, 10:40-12:10, 12:30-14:00 or 14:10-15:40. A half day runs from 9:00 to 12:00 or from 13:30 to 16:30. Equipment and the trail pass are not included: for cross-country skiing, Chamonix ski prices for hire and for the trail pass come on top of the lesson. Per lesson, for the group: that is how Chamonix ski instructor prices work here. In cross-country skiing, the price covers 1 to 2 people, then €25 per extra person, up to 6 people, for the 1.5-hour lesson and the half day; the full day costs €580 for up to 4 people. For snowshoeing prices in Chamonix, a half day costs €250 for 1 to 3 people, then €25 per extra person, 5 people maximum, and a full day, on request, from €450.
Biathlon prices in Chamonix, finally, are per 2-hour session: €280 for 1 to 2 people, €290 for 3, €290 for 4, €350 for 5, €420 for 6 and €490 for 7. With two people, you share the price of the cross-country lesson: it is not a price per person. In cross-country skiing in Chamonix, a 6-hour full day with Richard costs €580 for up to 4 people, from 9:00 to 16:30. Here, a full day with a ski instructor means cross-country skiing, also called Nordic skiing: Richard is a cross-country ski and biathlon instructor, and he does not teach downhill (alpine) skiing. A full day suits a discovery outing, for example in the Val Ferret, on the Italian side, with a lunch break at the Lavachey restaurant, as described on the page private cross-country ski lessons.
In Val Ferret, the Mont Blanc Tunnel return ticket (Richard has preferential rates), the cross-country trail pass and the restaurant are at your own expense. On any full-day outing, lunch at a mountain restaurant is paid by the participants, including the instructor’s meal. To prepare for a race, a cross-country ski course in Chamonix is one 1.5-hour session or several, at €150 for 1 to 2 people.
The current Chamonix ski instructor prices have no child price for lessons: the price is for the session, whatever the age. A child counts as one participant: the lesson price covers 1 to 2 people, then €25 per extra person. For a family, the cost of cross-country skiing therefore depends on the length of the lesson and on the number of participants; for a family of 3 or 4 (parents and children), the price is on request.
The trail pass has its own rates, set by the Maison nordique. Richard has been teaching skiing since 1999, to adults and children alike: see the cross-country ski lessons for children and, for shooting, biathlon for children: from age 8, with no child rate either.
A gift voucher is valid for the whole winter. It has the price of the activity chosen, with no free amount, and you pay 100% of it when you order. Richard then sends it by email within 48 hours, to download, with the activity.
As for the season: cross-country skiing and guided snowshoeing in Chamonix run from the opening of the trails, in December, to the end of March or early April. Given as a Christmas gift in the mountains, the voucher therefore arrives at the start of the season. Biathlon is practised all year round, on cross-country skis or on foot. Whatever the voucher, the person receiving it contacts Richard directly to set the date and time; during school holidays and at weekends, it is best to book early. Once the date is set, the voucher can no longer be exchanged or refunded, except in bad weather, when the outing is moved to another day: see the cancellation policy.
